King, J. 2018. Report of the Enrichment; Awareness and Uptake Workshop 2018 on 26th June at College Court, Leicester. Animal Technology and Wefare 17(3), 163-167. [Meeting Report]

The point of the session was to have a collaborative discussion about environmental enrichment. The organisers wanted to know people’s experiences with enrichment, the barriers they have faced, if they have overcome any, and also to share some of their own experiences. Various creative environmental and social enrichment ideas were discussed, including Lego, water trays, playpens, and chew sticks for rats and mice. One speaker discussed novel housing and husbandry to improve the welfare of breeding rats. There was a session on identifying the barriers to enrichment use, and another session on overcoming those barriers. The outcomes of these sessions are described.
