Goldsmith, R., Wilson, C. 2022. Does environmental colour matter to Zebrafish. Animal Technology and Welfare 21(3), 234–237.

The aim of this study was to determine if environmental colour affects the Zebrafrish (Danio rerio) performance metrics of survival, growth rates, fecundity, and fertility. This study created tanks of different colours (green, blue, and black) and included a clear tank as a control. Fish in black and control tanks produced a more consistent growth rate compared to the green and blue tanks, which were more variable. Fish in blue tanks had the greatest capacity for egg production, while still having a comparable fertility rate to the control. The results of this trial suggest different coloured tanks may be advantageous to growing and breeding fish.
