An unconventional but effective method of calming and immobilising the cat is the use of Clipthesia . This procedure, effective in 50% of the adult animals, involves the use of spring clothes pegs clipped down the mid-dorsal line of the cat. The animal becomes calm and appears to be in a semi-torpid condition. In this state the cat can be blood samples or have other minor interventions carried out. The use of clips is painless and without stress.
