Describes a case study of an elderly man who was admitted to hospital for disfiguring surgery and became withdrawn and angry. Regular interactions with a visiting dog and guinea pig allowed him to "reconnect" with his prehospitalized life. From being depressed and angry, he became happy and relaxed.
