Communications Intern

The Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) seeks a remote paid communications intern each spring, summer, and fall. This opportunity is open to undergraduate or graduate students majoring in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field—or to individuals with equivalent experience—seeking to develop their communication skills in a nonprofit setting and make a difference in the lives of animals. Summer interns are expected to work full-time during standard working hours (Eastern Time), while fall and spring interns are expected to be available at least 10 hours during standard working hours (Eastern Time) per week.

Communications interns will report to AWI’s digital engagement manager and public relations manager and assist with the development, implementation, and analysis of creative concepts and communication strategies. Tasks may include creating social media posts, media monitoring, media database updating, writing letters to the editor, etc. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator who is organized, works well independently, and has a genuine interest in animal welfare. Although not required, a demonstrated interest in social media management is preferred.

Interested applicants should send a résumé and cover letter to Kim Meneo at [email protected]. In your letter, please specify the term for which you are applying and the number of hours you are available. The windows during which applications will be considered are as follows:
