FY15 Agriculture Appropriations Bill

Action:
None needed at this time
Update:
AWI worked with legislators to successfully ensure that taxpayer money would not be used to inspect horse slaughter facilities for the current fiscal year ending on September 30, 2015. Read more about this success in our press release.

Dear Humanitarian,

Urgent Help Needed to Keep Horse Slaughter out of the USYour help is urgently needed today to thwart any attempt to return horse slaughter to the United States. As we told you a couple of weeks ago, the Senate and House of Representatives Appropriations Committees both overwhelmingly approved language blocking the US Department of Agriculture from spending taxpayer dollars to inspect horse slaughter plants, thus effectively preventing these facilities from operating.

While this action is only good for a year, it is important to ensure no plants reopen while we work to pass the SAFE Act, which will ban horse slaughter permanently. Should this language blocking inspections be removed, horse slaughter plants could reopen in this country for the first time since 2007.
